Dutch Candy
The Netherlands is a paradise for sweet lovers, with a unique confectionery tradition that is unlike any other. The country is most famous for "drop", a category of licorice that ranges from intensely salty (zoute drop) to sweet and is consumed in immense quantities by the Dutch. Other must-try treats include the globally popular stroopwafel, a thin caramel-filled waffle cookie that's best enjoyed warm over a hot drink. Traditional candies also include Haagse Hopjes, which are hard coffee-caramel sweets, and Wilhelmina Pepermunt, a classic peppermint candy with the image of a Dutch queen. Beyond these, the Dutch also love their speculaas, a spiced cookie, and chocoladeletters (chocolate letters) during the Sinterklaas holiday.
